This month, we’re celebrating creative defiance with the theme “Breaking the Rules.”

In wildlife photography, conventions like the rule of thirds, centered subjects, and forward-facing compositions often guide how we shoot. But true artistry emerges when we bend — or even break — those conventions to serve the story.

Whether it’s a subject looking away, a horizon perfectly centered, or a composition that feels off-balance yet intentional — this theme is your invitation to trust your instincts and create images that feel right, even when they look wrong.

What We’re Looking For

• Creative rule-breaking — intentional departures from traditional composition or framing
• Emotive storytelling — images that evoke feeling beyond technical perfection
• Strong visual tension — when imbalance or asymmetry adds to the mood
• Distinct perspective — unexpected use of space, direction, or focus
• Purposeful rebellion — choices that clearly serve the narrative, not chance

Important Guidelines

• Your image must feature wildlife in a natural setting
• No staged or captive animals will be accepted
• Ethical field practices are required — humor should never come at the subject’s expense
• Keep post-processing minimal and natural
