Meet The Judges

Gail Bisson

Gail is a retired family physician from Nova Scotia. She started photographing birds in 2009 and has been obsessed with improving her skills and learning everything about her subjects.

Over the years, she has had several images in Audubon’s Top 100 and several Highly Commended in Bird Photographer of the Year. In 2020, she won the Audubon Contest (amateur) and the Special Encounters Category of Bird Photographer of the Year. She also won the inaugural contest of Kingbirder 2020.

In 2021 she became a judge for WildArt Photographer of the Year, Kingbirder and a judge for Birdlife Australia Contest. She has also judged for many local provincial contests. She was a moderator for BirdPhotographers.net in 2020 and 2021.

Brad James

Brad James, a dedicated Wildlife Photographer from Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), has made significant strides in his field. His passion for nature and wildlife began early in his childhood in Gander, fueled by nature documentaries and bird guidebooks. A poignant memory from his youth was being photographed surrounded by evening Grosbeaks, symbolizing his deep connection with wildlife.

Since moving back to Newfoundland in 2010 from Ontario, Brad has focused on capturing and artistically showcasing the province’s rugged and spectacular wildlife. His work aims to inspire others to explore nature and experience wildlife adventures.

Brad’s photography journey reached a pinnacle in 2022 when he secured 2nd Place in the portrait category of the prestigious Bird Photographer of the Year contest. This international competition attracts up to 20,000 entries annually, marking this achievement as a significant milestone in Brad’s career. His award-winning photography highlights his talent and dedication to capturing the beauty of wildlife.

Jamin Hunter Taylor
Jamin Hunter Taylor was born and raised in Alaska and is an accomplished nature and wildlife photographer. Jamin uses photography as a means to showcase the beauty he sees in the created world. In addition to being out in the wild making images, he enjoys sharing his passion with others by leading workshops, photo safaris, and the occassional presentation. Jamin and his wife live in Eagle River, where they raise their two wonderful children together. Eagle River provides a central location to access many of Alaska’s beautiful places.
